Creating a Welcoming Guest Room | Part 4: Final Touches

We are wrapping up our blog series on creating a welcoming guest room with some thoughtful touches. It’s the little extra thought that will help make your guest comfortable and feel welcome!

Have you been at a short term rental or a friend’s house and just felt so at ease? Your host was well prepared and you didn’t have to ask for anything? It’s a good feeling, right? Let’s get your new guest room set up to provide that experience!

Bathroom Essentials

Towels and wash cloths. These are two of those most important things in my opinion! Providing several soft absorbent towels and wash cloths (enough for everyone who is staying) is a great starting point! I personally love these towels from Sam’s Club. They are soft, they are absorbent, and they wash well. Providing a place to hang towels is also key - this could be in the bathroom with a behind the door hook set like this one or you can place hooks within the guest room. Earlier this year I stayed at a short term rental and there was only one small hook in the bathroom. The house could sleep 6 people. Not a great ratio if you ask me!

Making sure there is extra toilet paper within reach is crucial. Don’t make your guests have to search high and low for a replacement roll or heaven forbid have to call out to you for more.

Providing a small supply of toiletry items in case something was forgotten or they run out is a great idea! Travel size shampoo and conditioner, body wash, deodorant, lotion, extra toothbrushes and floss set out in a nice basket or on a tray is a nice touch. A stash of feminine products is helpful as well!

Clean towels and extra toiletries will be appreciated!

The Extra Mile

Some other items that are sure to help make your guests stay a memorable one:

  • small fan - either a floor model or a one that can be set on a dresser

  • heater (depending on the season) - I’d recommend a floor model

  • luggage rack - I love this one! Both functional and pretty

You can store the above items in the closet when not in use.

  • charging / extension cords - these provide all the options and I suggest having one on each side of the bed

  • local magazines - mark your favorite articles!

  • water carafe / glasses - this is a lovely option

  • wifi access info - could be printed and framed or just set on the dresser or nightstand

Local magazines and plenty of charging options are excellent touches to your guest room!

What am I missing? Have you had a great experience where it seemed like your host had thought of everything? I’d love to hear your suggestions!
